GAATW members awarded for their work

ShaktiSamuhaawardIn January, our Nepali member Shakti Samuha was awarded the “Human Rights Award 2078” by  the Ministry of Justice, Law, and Parliamentary Affairs in Nepal. The award recognises the unparalleled role played by the survivor-led group in protecting the rights of trafficked persons. Representing Shakti Samuha, Charimaya Tamang received the award from the honourable Prime Minister of Nepal, his excellency Mr Sher Bahadur Deuba.

In October, ASTRA from Serbia and Novi Put from Bosnia and Herzegovina received the Child10 Award by HM Queen Silvia of Sweden. The award was given to a total of ten organisations working to prevent trafficking and sexual exploitation of children in Europe and provide assistance to survivors. They also received a grant of 10,000 Euro from Her Majesty Queen Silvia´s Foundation as well as an individual support programme to scale the impact of their organisations. The award ceremony took place during a seminar organised on the occasion of EU Anti-Trafficking Day on 18 October. The seminar also featured a high-level panel discussion on human trafficking in Europe with Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, the Assistant Secretary-General of the UN and Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, Ilias Chatzis, the Chief of UNODC’s Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Section, Diane Schmitt, EU Anti-trafficking Coordinator, and Erik Wottrich, the Head of Sustainability at Tele2.
