New issues of Our Work, Our Lives

OWOL issue6 coverIn the first half of 2022, we continued publishing our monthly e-magazine Our Work, Our Lives, an initiative that focuses on women workers’ joys, struggles, and agendas for change.

We welcomed the New Year with the sixth issue themed ‘Hopes and Dreams for 2022’, where seventeen groups of women workers and CSOs from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Nepal, and Sierra Leone shared their collective dreams and hopes through stories, drawings, visual art, and poems. The processes that each group carried out in preparation for their contribution was supported by several colleagues who facilitated in-person and online sessions, and helped with transcribing and translating women workers’ stories to English.

The seventh issue, published in February, focuses on the theme of ‘Women Workers and the Climate Crisis’. These stories from women’s collectives and CSOs in Bangladesh, Kenya, Sierra Leone, India, and Indonesia explores the impacts of climate change on women workers’ lives and livelihoods from their own perspectives, and the steps they are taking to address these challenges.

The eighth issue is themed ‘Songs that Women Sing’. It was published in March, in celebration of International Women’s Day. We asked our sisters and colleagues around the world to share with us one or two songs that they have used in their work for social change, along with some details about the context and a short translation. The result is a powerful and inspiring collection of clips and songs from 21 organisations in 12 countries in which they raise their voices against patriarchy, discrimination, injustice and call for peace, freedom, and equality.

The next issue will be published in June and will be on the how and why of organising.
