In partnership with our members, GAATW-IS engages in advocacy on priority issues relating to trafficking, migration and human rights at the regional and international level. GAATW incorporates member organisations in advocacy work through collaboration on advocacy statements and planning, in presentations at regional and international meetings and conferences, and ensuring opportunities to participate at key international events.
GAATW has long played a significant role in international advocacy on trafficking, and we continue to call for the protection of human rights in all anti-trafficking and migration policies.
Our priority advocacy issues for 2009 include advocating for stronger human rights protection of trafficked and migrant persons; and calling for a review mechanism for the UN Convention on Transnational Organised Crime and its Protocols (UNTOC), specifically the UN Human Trafficking Protocol.

GAATW’s international advocacy work has been facilitated by the Alliance successfully obtaining consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations in 2006.
