Speak Out, Take Action, 2004

Speak OutThis booklet was put together in conjunction with the three documentary films on police brutality made by Durjoy & Ulka from Bangladesh, Cambodia Prostitute Union from Phonmpenh, and Kerala Sex Workers Forum, India. The three films are the maiden efforts of the women at handling video cameras to document their struggles for human rights. Made as part of the activity which also involved EMPOWER foundation from Thailand and Shakti Samuha from Nepal these films record the inhuman treatment which sex workers receive from the State.

The film from Bangladesh was the opening film at the Asia Pacific NGO Forum on Beijing+10. National screenings of the films were held to packed audiences and they were also shown in Bangkok.

This booklet provides a global context to the state sponsored violence towards sex workers in many parts of the world by giving excerpts from reports sent to us by colleagues and/or published in the web. It also lists out the human rights groups who have raised their protest against such brutality.

Creating Our E-Community

GAATW e-Bulletin

ebulletin09_2GAATW e-bulletin is sent out to all member organisations of the Alliance as well as to many of its friends and sister NGOs worldwide.

The e-bulletin is published every three months. A Spanish version goes out to REDLAC members a few days after the English version. Sometimes additional follow-up information and/or reminders are also sent via email to member organisations.

Primarily a tool for communication between the International Secretariat and the Alliance members, the e-bulletin aims to cover a broad range of topics although trafficking-related issues remain its special focus. The bulletin does not have a rigid format; while some issues may contain news clips others may have an opinion piece or a report. We also use this e-bulletin to inform members about upcoming events and provide regular updates about the Secretariat.

We strongly encourage members and friends to send us their input to the e-bulletin at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Partners in Change: A Report of the Conference, 2002

This report provides a summation of the panel presentations and the discussions of Partners in Change, a three-day conference in November 2002, organised by GAATW. The report tries to retain the voices of women, as they narrate their experiences of migration, trafficking, and rebuilding lives.

Moving the Whore Stigma: Report on the Asia and Pacific Regional Consultation on Prostitution, 1997

This is an outcome of the Asia and Pacific Regional Consultation on Prostitution held in Thailand in 1997. Jointly organised by GAATW and Foundation for Women, this marks the first regional effort to discuss the debate around the issue of prostitution and search for a common position on prostitution among women in Asia and the Pacific.

The late 90s saw the strengthening and formation of several sex workers rights groups in Asia. As a follow up to this consultation GAATW has held several meetings with sex workers rights groups in the Asian region and has facilitated research and advocacy projects with them.
