The Women on the Move Programme focuses on the labour migration experiences of women, alongside the policies and practices that influence their mobility, rights protection, and recognition of their agency. We highlight the distinct and pressing challenges faced by women migrants in today's global migration context, exploring the forms of resistance they build, and identifying the support needed to enhance their organising efforts and advocacy.
The Women on the Move Programme supports the struggle of migrant women in the care economy by making their work visible and valued. Through grounded, feminist knowledge-building with migrant care workers, we support migrant-led organisations in holding states and employers accountable and challenging the structural inequalities that shape and sustain global care chains. We resist the punitive and exclusionary approaches to migration governance by working with our global membership to interrogate the security agendas of different governments around the world. We document the gendered impacts of restrictive and exploitative policies, elevating the stories of marginalised people in our advocacy for just and feminist migration policies. By creating spaces for migrant women workers to carry out joint actions with our member organisations, we also collectively build pressure on policymakers to dismantle the structures of violence, criminalisation and discrimination. These spaces for discussion also develop our collective understanding of the narrow legal definition of forced migration and the weak protection frameworks for displaced migrants.
